Los Angeles in paintings of John Tierney
The artist, John Tierney, is a regular visitor to Los Angeles and is interested in both the urban landscape of the city and the desert landscape of Joshua Tree National Park. The light in LA and the desert have, for him, a particular resonance. In addition, some of his work has focused on images of New York and Helsinki, Finland.
The aim is straightforward: to create paintings that provide a strong sense of place, a feeling of what it is like to be there (and hopefully the viewer will enjoy looking at them). For John, being a visitor, an ‘outsider’ from another country, is a key dimension to this project. In terms of important influences, he admires the work of the American artist Edward Hopper and the British artists Peter Blake and David Hockney, especially the latter’s earlier LA-based work.
Until recently John Tierney was a criminology professor at Durham University in the north east of England and has published a wide range of articles and books on the subject. Retiring from the university in 2010 meant that more time could be devoted to oil painting.
Much of his work takes the urban landscape of Los Angeles, New York, Helsinki, and the desert landscape of Joshua Tree National Park as its subject matter. His work has attracted a steady following of private collectors and admirers around the world.

I am a full time artist once stayed in London,currently based in Taipei, Taiwan.
Taiwanese young artist Peihang Huang, as a young generation of the land in chaotic situation both cultural and political, her painting tap aim to Taiwan’s history while linking it to global culture by referencing Western pop culture to portray her feeling about being Taiwanese. At the same time, as an artist in residential, she turns her way to involve/intervene the foreign city in a Taiwanese point of view by holding conceptual events based on the execution by painting and video.
My work : Fleshy Fairytale series, of all those merely nude figures are based on barbie dolls and puppets, it links to the strong mixed influence of Chinese, Japanese and American culture to Taiwan, which refers to the issue of identity of my culture; and also focusing on several topics and events that is important in our life, such as death/life/ love/ beauty/body/timing, I believe puppets are the perfect figure to project human behaviors and philosophies.

Jonathan has been into art from an early age. As a child, he mimicked has father’s actions at the drawing table. Today he is, among other things, a traditional artist, digital artist, and active online gamer. He’s 25 and currently lives in Indiana.

But I was totally excited by Photoshop. I started playing with it almost at the same time and still use it. I never read any tutorials when I was first starting, so most of the things I now know I've learned by myself. Despite my interest in photography I could never tell that I had a true passion for it back when it was time to go to the University and so I've decided to become a geneticist. In 2008 I have received my Master's Diploma with Honour in genetics and molecular biology in Ukraine. After that I've worked for several years in different leading neuroscience labs in Sweden and Germany. During this time I never dropped shooting and slowly but inevetably my passion for photography was growing until recently I've realized that there is nothing else that thrills and excites me as much as photography. And so the time has come for a hobby to grow into a real job. Now I'm a freelance photographer.

Justin Maller is an Australian freelance illustrator and art director. He has been creating digital art for over twelve years, and has produced professionally in both a private and studio based capacity for the last six.
Justin has had the pleasure of producing illustrations and concept art for a diverse array of companies and publications worldwide, and enjoys a cordial collaborative relationship with many brands, agencies and studios. He is also the Creative Director of The Depthcore Collective, an international modern art collective he established in June 2002. Work aside, Justin is the curator of the digital media remix project Run Your Jewels, an avid consumer of banana bread and an occasional tweeter.

In 2005 I moved to Gothenburg to study Computer engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. During my time studying I took up my interest for retouch once again. I had a lot of ideas that I wanted to realize and I saw it as problem solving trying to make it as realistic as possible. After publishing some of my images online I started to get requests about commissioned work from some local advertisement agencies. I started out freelancing in parallel with my studies while still working on personal projects. I got more and more jobs and at the time I finished my studies with a master in Interaction Design I felt like I rather wanted to try out the photography path. I moved to Norrköping in the eastern part of Sweden to start working full time as a freelance. I made new friends and got to work on interesting projects, both local and abroad. In early 2012 it was time for something new as I moved to Berlin, Germany.
Today I work with both personal and commissioned projects, in 2011 I also started doing street illusions and in 2012 I plan to move on to motion pictures as well as starting with a book project. In November 2011 I spoke at the TED conference in London about my images. I’ve been working with clients such as Google, Microsoft and IKEA. But the personal work and concepts will always be what’s most important. Growing up on the Swedish countryside had a big impact on my visual style. A lot of the environments in my photos are captured near places I know, around my parents’ home with wide open landscapes and small red houses. Inspiration is everywhere and this is just the beginning.
